Thomas James
Director – Licensed Private Investigator
Thomas James founded SCI in 2013 and has more than 12 years' experience in debt litigation support, process serving, and complex private matters. As Director and Licensed Private Investigator, Thomas oversees all strategic operations.
With deep knowledge of New Zealand's legal landscape and investigative best practices, Thomas has built a team of dedicated professionals committed to delivering exceptional results for our clients.
Daniel Ross
General Manager, Operations – Private Investigator, Dip. Pol.
Daniel Ross is a former New Zealand Police Detective and Sergeant with over 13 years' experience across a range of specialist investigation teams, including the National Organised Crime Group, Criminal Investigation Branch, and front-line response.
Daniel now applies this expertise to complex and sensitive investigations for insurers and private clients. He is highly regarded for his strong knowledge of criminal law, methodical approach to investigations, attention to detail, skilled interviewing techniques, and calm, considered decision-making in challenging and high-pressure environments.
Aaron Sewell
Manager, Investigations & Recoveries – Licensed Private Investigator
Aaron Sewell has over 20 years' investigative experience, with a dedicated focus on insurance fraud investigations since 2014. His background includes extensive operational work in process serving, field enquiries, repossessions, and compliance activity, supporting complex and time-sensitive matters.
He is recognised for structured interviewing, evidence assessment, and high-quality reporting that is clear, defensible, and practical. Aaron's leadership and experience support consistent outcomes across varied investigation types.
Our Team
SCI employs its team directly — we don’t subcontract. The same former Police and Defence Force professionals who run our investigations also visit debtors, serve documents and carry out repossessions. Our team operates across New Zealand; our management and key investigators are listed below, and they represent part of a wider team.
Daniel Yee
Senior Investigator, Dip. Pol.
Daniel Yee has over 12 years' experience across policing, financial investigation, and private investigation. His background includes serious and complex criminal investigations, as well as financial analysis and asset tracing through insolvency-related work and private sector matters.
He undertakes sensitive investigations for insurers, law firms, and private clients, with a focus on evidence integrity and reliable findings. Daniel is valued for disciplined case management and well-reasoned reporting.
Rob Masters
Private Investigator, Dip. Pol.
Rob Masters is a former New Zealand Police Senior Sergeant with 20 years' frontline, supervisory, and investigative experience across Wellington and Auckland. His policing career included serving on frontline response teams, as Officer in Charge of Wellington Airport Police, and within Police Professional Conduct.
Rob now undertakes work for insurers, private clients, process serving, and repossessions. He is valued for his calm, confident leadership style, sound judgement, and strong attention to detail, bringing a professional and methodical approach to every assignment.
Christelle Fung
Private Investigator, Dip. Pol.
Christelle Fung is a former New Zealand Police Detective with experience across frontline policing and criminal investigation, including specialist units and the Criminal Investigation Branch. Her background includes family harm, child protection, and serious crime investigations.
She now conducts investigations for insurers and private clients, applying disciplined methodology and careful evidential handling. Christelle is known for professional engagement and clear reporting.
Caleb
Private Investigator, Dip. Pol.
Caleb brings over 7 years' experience from the New Zealand Police to his investigative role. He is highly skilled in vehicle repossession, document serving, and complex investigations.
Clients value his practical experience, precision, and commitment to achieving effective and timely outcomes.
Cam Mullenger
Private Investigator, Dip. Pol.
Cam Mullenger served in the New Zealand Police from 2012 to 2023, including roles in the Criminal Investigation Branch, Police Dog Section, and the Armed Offenders Squad. His experience includes high-risk operations, serious enquiries, and leading operational activity in demanding environments.
He later worked in close protection in New Zealand and overseas, delivering protective security and risk management for VIP and high-net-worth clients. Cam brings calm execution, discretion, and strong operational judgement to each assignment.
Currently on a long-term secondment.
Craig
Private Investigator, Dip. Pol.
Craig has 21 years' service in the New Zealand Police, including as a Detective Sergeant and Armed Offenders Squad member. He managed serious and complex investigations and contributed to the planning and resolution of time-critical and safety-critical incidents.
Since leaving Police, Craig has held senior roles in security, emergency management, and workplace investigations. He brings strong investigative structure, procedural fairness, and practical risk awareness to sensitive and high-consequence matters.
Murray
Private Investigator
With a background in the New Zealand Defence Force, Murray brings over 30 years' experience in high-level security, surveillance, investigation, and close protection.
He has safeguarded high-profile clients across corporate and government sectors, both in New Zealand and internationally.
His international experience supports his discreet, professional, and results-driven approach.
Ethan Moser
Private Investigator
Ethan Moser brings a strong operational background from the Royal New Zealand Navy, including command of a naval patrol vessel. He undertakes investigations with a focus on marine and insurance-related matters, debt recovery support, and process serving.
He is valued for disciplined execution, attention to detail, and steady decision-making in dynamic environments. Ethan supports instructions requiring structure, reliability, and clear communication.
